Jennifer Lagier- A Poem

Nepenthe

Stone benches, outdoor heaters invite
pseudo bohemians seeking
to rub shoulders with celebrities who
sip Testarosa from Gary’s Vineyard.

Here Richard Burton once caressed
Elizabeth Taylor as stoned locals fed the fire,
performed erotic choreography,
bacchanalia rites beneath a full moon.

Revelers riot upon red tile patio.
Surf whispers against Big Sur headlands.
Mountain lions scream, seek warm prey,
glide along twisted canyons.
