Richard Schnap- A Poem

PARAPHERNALIA

He sat at his desk with paper and pen
And then realized he had nothing to say

So he looked at the objects around his room
Hoping for some kind of inspiration

He gazed at the statuettes of famous landmarks
The Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower

The plastic rose in its tall slender vase
The crystal ball with its veneer of dust

The pachinko game that had never been played
The mechanical cat whose batteries were dead

The portrait of his mother in a designer dress
Looking like a film star from the 1940’s

And then a voice awoke in his head
Like a spirit released from a sealed tomb

All things in life have a story to tell
As he took his pen and began to write
