Colleen Colkitt- A Poem

Ellis Island

Braveheart’s on Netflix
And we all cheered
For Scotland’s freedom
Like we were there
And had a claim in it
Like we had family
Come over
To tell us tales
Of kilts and fears of
Prima Nocta

Braveheart’s on Netflix
And I watched it all night –
It took all night –
So I fell asleep with
Mel Gibson on the brain,
And that hair,
Oh, that hair.
He had a mullet like yours
But his never had buzzed
Racing stripes etched in.

Braveheart’s on Netflix
Was the last text
I sent you
Before you drove your car
Through that stubborn
Touristy info center brick building,
The one where Ellis island
Used to be.
