Melanie Browne- A Poem

Effigy

I drag you
in from the field,
you tell me
you swallowed
a crow,
it tickles your throat,
causes a tightness
in your chest,
I meditate
on the word
Snow,
then walk you
back to the field,
lie down beside you
and wait for the
wind to sing,
 for the straw to fly
through the air,
until we disappear,
our shoes
still warming
beneath
the tangerine
sun
